One of the glories of writing test articles is that I can write about things I like without worrying whether other people like them too. One thing I adore is glassware. Not the sort that is sold cheap in department stores, but glassware as fine art.
So I wanted to share this photo I took in the Stanford Museum in 2008. It’s a group of three pieces together called Blue Group. Sort of obvious really. I love them because:
- the lustre and gloss – just look how they reflect their surroundings;
- the colour – it’s a blue to drown in and a consistent colour without patches; and
- the shapes – just beautiful
There are more great piece’s on Dante Marioni’s website, although personally I think Blue Group, which he made in 1994, is better than most the current pieces he is displaying, although there are some glorious ones on there as I write this such as Red and Yellow Urns. On the historical page, he is showing his Whopper Vase which is utterly fantastic. He is best known for tall, sleek, bright peices of glassware and I love them.
