Cathedrale Notre Dame de Bayeux

The heart of Bayeux is a cathedral town.  Bayeux cathedral is on the gentle slopes which rise above a small river  The main shopping street run east west just a couple of blocks north of the cathedral with a quaint residential area (with some nice cafes) just to the west of the cathedral.

The cathedral was built and rebuilt over about 300 years from the 11th century through the the 14th, although as with all great buildings enhancement rarely stop entirely.

The interior of the nave is light and airy.  As the photo shows, the first tier of the nave rests of rounded Norman arches surmounted by a small triforium and a large clerestory which floods the cathedral with light.
