Styling Menu Items

The Kandie Girls theme allows menu items to be style in two special ways: as horizontal tabs or as pages which do not appear on the menu unless they are the live page.  Both are established by editing the Menu and setting a value in the CSS Classes option.

Horizontal Tab Menus

To mark a menu item which is the first tab for a horizonal menu, enter a value of tab-parent Children in the menu will be displayed horizontally rather than vertically as usual. Alternatively, enter a value of tab-menu to display the context menu for the  microsite as a tab menu (or the Tab Menu menu by default).

Children should not themselve be given a CSS Class of tab-parent.  There should only be one level of children beneath a tab-parent or on a tab-menu to avoid undpredictable results.

Within IE7, horizontal menus revert to showing vertically within the main menu.

Hidden and Shadow Pages

To mark a menu item which should only be shown if it is the live page, enter a value of shadow, or hidden to stop it displaying entirely.  Marking an item members-only has the same effect as hidden for anybody who is not logged in, but otherwise does nothing.  Combining these options on one item is likely to give unpredictable results.

At present shadow only works for pages on a horizintal tab, but will be extended.  The purpose is to  reduce clutter on menus by hiding rarely used pages.  When they are accessed by another link, they need to be shown in their correct place within the menu so that visitors don’t get lost in their navigation.
